Why is research needed?

Music therapy addresses an area of recovery from research that has been highlighted by patients, their families and the wider public as being very important.

What research are we doing?

We are developing different forms of music therapy and trying to decide which patients will benefit the most, and at what point of their recovery from serious illness. We also want to explore whether families might also benefit, as they often suffer psychological stress from having a loved one in intensive care. In addition families will be integral to supporting the patient when they return home.
